Empowering People with Learning Disabilities

We are committed to ensuring individuals with learning disabilities receive the care and support they need to live healthier lives.

Working in close partnership with local GP practices, we are actively improving access to annual health checks for people with learning disabilities—an essential step in promoting early intervention and better health outcomes.

To support this, we have:

  • Created bespoke clinical spaces designed to meet the specific needs of our learning disability (LD) community
  • Secured funding from the Cancer Alliance to help improve access to cancer screening services

Our goal is to remove barriers to healthcare and ensure that everyone – regardless of ability – can access the services they deserve in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Over the past three years, our team has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of care for patients with Learning Disabilities. We believe that every patient deserves a holistic review—one that not only addresses their health needs but also gives them the opportunity to share any concerns and feel truly heard.

When we began this journey, only 54% of our Learning Disability patients were receiving annual reviews. Today, we are proud to announce that this figure has risen to an outstanding 97%. This achievement reflects the dedication of our staff and the strong partnerships we have built with patients and their families.

Our efforts have been acknowledged by the Integrated Care Board (ICB), and we are committed to maintaining this high standard of care. These reviews are more than a checkbox—they are a vital part of ensuring that every individual receives the support they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Our goal is to remove barriers to healthcare and ensure that everyone – regardless of ability – can access the services they deserve in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
