From 24 March, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme is expanding digital services to improve how patients receive their results.

Patients whose results require a referral to colposcopy will now be able to view their results through the NHS App.

What’s changing?

• Screening results will be delivered digitally first via the NHS App
• If the message is not opened:
  • Within 24 hours (for colposcopy referrals) → a letter will be sent
  • Within 72 hours (for all other results) → a letter will be sent
• Some patients may also receive SMS notifications

This builds on improvements introduced in 2025, including digital invitations, reminders, and selected results.

Since June 2025, over 3 million invitations have been sent digitally, with 90% delivered via NHS Notify.
